Strangely enough, I found Spin's review quite interesting.

or maybe better here somehow: http://pitchfork.com/thepitch/234-sun-kil-moon-benji-glossary/
...although I'm not quite sure of the purpose...but it's got a quite a few nice lines: "Also, the song that was playing when Mark Kozelek hooked up with Patricia, making it possibly the only time anybody’s gotten horny while listening to Roger Waters sing."
fuck, it's hilarious.^^

Well. So ….
Wow. That really is a pasting. I must say, though, the imaginary narrative at the start amused me no end, ha ha! I've only listened to Benji a couple of times, so I'm not in a position to give a comprehensive opinion on it, but....that writer does make some valid points about Mark's lyrical content and delivery.
I'm always amused that the people who ~hate~ Pitchfork are probably the most concerned whether they give an album a high undeserved rating or not.
@klaher - that's a review. Although I don't overly agree with the majority of the article, it was a good read. Two things got my interest, specifically ;
"two people die by aerosol can explosion on this record."
...and secondly, the targeted Google Ad at the bottom, which for me personally is enticing me to buy Chestnut Caramel wood flooring. Maybe i'll give Gustavo a ring and see if he wants some work. A little sad that no housewives in my area wish to meet up with me today though. I bet Mark get's that on his laptop.
the review itself is pretty bad. i did enjoy the intro though. pretty sure that something like that actually happened.
This narrative part at the beginning cracked me up.
The rest of it was kinda...wrong, though. I mean, this board is just as critical of MK as the reviewer is, not full of apologists. And, April was just OK IMO, not one that he is "never going to top."
That review is bitter as hell but to be honest I kinda like it. Except for the mention of Pitchfork's 9.2 like it was big fucking deal (like they don't pull those ratings out of their asses) and the Sad Reminders "apologists"--I can't think of anywhere else on the web where Mark gets more hatred than on this forum--it's well written with some valid points, and the intro is too funny.
fucking cracked me up
I secretly agree with stuff in this article except for his take on AFP. That WAS one of his best albums ever.

I just checked Norman Records for their review of the album and there I found our beloved @MrHanky in the company of his Grumpmaster Koz:

ha yeah I saw that before and was going to say something. I used to trade CDs with Phil (the owner) back in the 90's.

@Nick Ha Ha I really enjoyed doing that but at that stage I hadn't even heard the album I'm pretty sure (just a few select tracks). Did you like (Isaac B)rock n roll....I thought that was quite clever if I have to say so myself
hahaha yeah, remarkable!

By far the best review for Benji I've read. This one is perfect for Sad Reminders members:
Tiny Mix Tapes - http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-review/sun-kil-moon-benji
holy shit @nicktwisp, that's a killer review!
talked last night with a fellow Koz-lover who shared similar sentiments:
"it's like a punch to the gut, & a stab to the back..."
nice find.
Good god, TheNeedleDrop just gave it a 9/10, with a NO LEAST FAV TRACK
That review was cringe-worthy.
